Old National Gallery

Berlin
Berlin is a city rich in art, so a visit here should take in the beautiful Old National Gallery which displays many 19th century works belong to some of the country's greatest artists and sculptors. The museum's exterior resembles a Roman temple and it can be found on Museum Island.

Here you can view works by famous painters like Casper David Friedrich, Karl Blechen and Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The museum also displays some very important sculptures most notably from sculptor Johann Gottfried Schadow who was born in Berlin. The museum also boasts collections by Adolf Von Mendal – one of the city's most famous painters.

The gallery was heavily damaged by bombing during World War II, but was restored down through the years and today you can explore the museum in all its original style and décor, with sculpted marble stairways, silk wallpapered rooms and a reconstructed dome skylight. It took 10 full years to restore this gallery to its original style and it's just not to be missed.
