The notorious Berlin Wall is pretty much synonymous with the city these days and bold reminder of its grim history. Just to the east of the city centre along the River Spree in the area of Muhlenstrasse, a large section of the wall has been preserved for public viewing. The old wall acted as a barrier dividing the east and the west of the city, with attempts to clamber over being met by a hail of bullets from snipers’ rifles. Nowadays it’s a reminder of the city’s past and a testament to its bright and peaceful future, with politically sound slogans and majestic art work adorning the walls.
