Alte Museum

Berlin
Located on Museum Island in Berlin, Alte Museum is one of five fantastic museums that must be visited while exploring the city. The museum was constructed back in 1822 , it was actually built over a grave site! What you'll see first is a huge stone bowl sitting in front of the steps of the building. It is believed that the bowl is made of the stone that was part of a group of boulders transported by ice over 300,000 years ago to Rauen Hill, south of Berlin.

Alte Museum holds magnificent sculptures and collections of ancient artwork, the exterior of the building looks like a Greek temple and there are many seating areas and amazing gardens close by to sit back and take in all sites while exploring the museums.

One of the biggest attractions in the museum in the bust of Queen Nefertiti, which dates back to around 1360BC!

The museum, unfortunately, along with so many other buildings and monuments throughout the city was also damaged during World War II, restored in 1966 where the dome was rebuilt and re-opened as a museum. This museum is Berlin’s oldest, and once you pass “the biggest soup spoon in Berlin” (the famous stone bowl in front of the building) don’t miss the unique sculptures that surround the entrance to Alte Museum!
