Sanssouci Park is located in Potsdam, southwest of Berlin. The park is well worth a visit as it’s composed of a series of palaces and gardens developed in the 18th century by Frederick the Great. It comprises of a decorative flower garden, scattered with turfs, flowerbeds, trees and hedges. The park holds greenhouses that amazingly grow oranges, melons, bananas and peaches.
Following the terracing of the vineyard and the completion of the Palace of Potsdam, Sanssoci Park was created. Over 3,000 fruit trees were planted in the hedge quarter. The goddesses Flora and Pomona, who decorate the entrance at the eastern park exit, were placed there to highlight the association of the flower, vegetable and fruit garden.
The water fountains are a prominent feature in Sanssouci Park, the full park occupies an area of 287 hectares. The park consists of 2 fantastic palaces Neus Palace which was built in 1763 and Schloss Sanssouci which was built in 1769, both palaces can be visited by the public, if you do not wish to pay a visit to the palaces you can simply spend the day strolling around this splendid park.
