Berlin – where to Eat, Drink & Shop:
Kurferstendamm(sometimes called Ku'damm for short) is the city’s main shopping thoroughfare where you’ll find a good range of department stores ranging from the latest designer gear to more casual stores such as H&M and Zara. Check out the KaDeWe multi-storey shopping centre, it’s the biggest in Europe and is well known for its upper floors where you can enjoy any one of a number of international foods or indulge from the selection of champagne.
On that chic note you can head to Friedrichstrasse if you fancy a really classy shopping experience. Here you’ll find the Galaries Lafayette and the city’s largest bookshop the Dussman, as well as the suave Quartier 206 shopping centre. Mitte is another big shopping centre where you’ll find a huge selection of shops.
For something a bit different make for the flea markets at Schoneberg on weekends. Strasse de 17. Juni is a good spot located near the Tiergarten S-Bahn in Mitte, while Am Kupfergraben near the museum island is another decent market and runs on Saturdays and Sundays. You’re bound to uproot something different and pick up a bargain at one of these busy and bustling markets .
If you fancy a night out you’re spoilt for choice, Berlin is fast becoming the party capital of Europe and you can stay out all night as the S-Bahn and U-Bahn is open 24 hours.
Prenzlauer Berg district is an excellent place saturated with trendy bars and restaurants offering cuisine from all over the world. It’s a popular area and you’ll find plenty of cutting edge places with a relaxed and easy going atmosphere. Mitte has always been the main centre of Berlin and as such it’s also got plenty of good bars and places to eat, while Kreuzberg is the mainly Turkish district with long left wing associations, and you’ll get a fine slice of Eastern culture and cuisine amongst the bars, restaurants and cafes .
Of course there are clubs scattered all over the city, ranging in various styles from pulsating techno beats to relaxed ambient sounds, whatever you want this city has it so you’re bound to find something tailored to your tastes.
